How Should You Dress for an Escape Room?

Whether you’re navigating through a haunted mansion, decoding a spy mission, or racing against the clock in an ancient temple, the excitement of an escape room is real. But before you dive into puzzle-solving, you should decide what you’re going to wear! As LA’s best escape room, the last thing we want is for guests to feel awkward or uncomfortable because of their clothing. Here are some tips, and please call us if you have any questions.

Comfort Is King

First things first: comfort is a must. Escape rooms require a lot of movement—crawling under tables, reaching up high, or even shimmying through tight spaces—so you’ll want clothes that let you move freely. Whether you’re a jeans and t-shirt kind of person or you prefer activewear, the most important thing is to wear something that allows you to be as nimble as your mind.

Stretchy fabrics, like leggings, joggers, or athletic pants, are great choices. But, here’s a fun tip: avoid black leggings in escape rooms with dim lighting or night vision cameras. Why? In low-light scenarios, black fabric sometimes “disappears” on night vision cameras, which might make it look like you have – well, no pants. It’s an odd phenomenon that you may want to avoid during your escape room visit

Skip the Stilettos, Opt for Flats

We all want to look our best, but stilettos and escape rooms don’t mix. Many escape rooms have themed elements that could include uneven flooring, metal grates, or even outdoor-style terrain, depending on the storyline. High heels can be tricky (not to mention uncomfortable) in these environments. Opt for flats, sneakers, or low boots that allow you to move quickly and safely. You’ll thank yourself when you’re racing to find that last clue before the clock runs out.

We’re Not Prudes, But Keep Modesty in Mind

Escape rooms are designed for fun, and most venues have cameras installed in the ceiling to monitor the game’s progress and provide hints if needed. You may also need to climb and crawl. With that in mind, consider avoiding low-cut tops or clothing that might make you feel self-conscious. Go for clothing that makes you feel comfortable from all angles, so you can focus entirely on solving puzzles without a wardrobe worry!

Flexibility Is Very Important

Escape rooms aren’t just a mental challenge—they often involve a fair bit of physical movement too. Some clues may be hidden under tables, behind furniture, or in other tricky spots, so you’ll need to bend, stretch, and maybe even crawl. If your outfit doesn’t allow you to comfortably reach down or get on your knees, you might miss out on the best part of the action. Dresses, pencil skirts, or super-tight pants might limit your movement. Instead, try something you can really move around in, like joggers, yoga pants, or stretchy jeans.

Pull Out The Costumes!

Some escape rooms go all out with elaborate themes, and that’s your cue to join in the fun! We have several costume-appropriate escape room themes on tap at all times here at The Escape Revolution. If the room is centered around a holiday like Halloween or has a specific theme (like pirates, detectives, or ancient Egypt), costumes can add an extra layer of excitement. Imagine dressing up as Sherlock Holmes for a mystery room or donning an adventurer’s outfit for a jungle escape! Just remember to keep it practical—think of a costume that allows for free movement. This way, you’re in character without sacrificing comfort.

Work Gathering Considerations

If your escape room adventure is part of a work gathering, you might need to give your coworkers a heads-up about the dress code. People may show up to work in formal or business-casual attire, which might not be ideal for climbing under furniture or racing through puzzles. It’s always a good idea to let your team know to wear something casual, flexible, and comfortable on escape room day. This way, everyone can focus on the fun, not on adjusting their tight office attire.

What’s the Perfect Escape Room Outfit?

Balance comfort, practicality, and a little bit of fun to create the perfect escape room outfit. Ultimately, we want our guests to have fun – if your clothes are uncomfortable (either too tight, uncomfortable shoes, or causing distress because of modesty issues), you may not have a great time. When you’re dressed appropriately, you’ll be free to focus entirely on solving puzzles, working with your team, and making it out before the clock hits zero.Whether you want to enjoy an incredible escape room experience with friends, or bring your coworkers for a team building activity in Los Angeles, please get in touch. We’d love to schedule you.
